When “Action Rocky” is not on the mountain guiding a group, he is often found with his son Emmnauel and Manase exploring routes in the Kilimanjaro foothills. With his discretion and calm demeanor, he makes sure climbers have everything they need for a happy and successful summit. Rocky’s big smile will make you smile too!

With his big smile and desire for you to have a great day, Manase goes for anything! He dances, sings, shares his knowledge, and patiently translates every conversation between guests and locals. When he is not guiding Rocky Africa clients, he can be found taking care of his wife and 3 children at home in Mbahe Village or working his land in West Kilimanjaro.

Assistant Guide, Foothills Guide
Johnson’s quiet demeanor belies a wonderful sense of humor, punctuated by a wry chuckle. Johson has been with Rocky Africa since 2019 and is beloved by all who join his climbs, and highly respected by the crew. When not on the mountain Johson can often be found around Ashira as his home is adjacent to the Rocky Africa Coffee plantation.

“Robson” as he likes to be known, has being working as a cook since 2000 and with Rocky Africa’s since 2019. He rules over his kitchen with an iron fist and easy laugh, creating amazing cuisine at any altitude – keeping our climbers happy, warm and well-nourished.

With his delicious recipes and his savoir-faire, Godlisten has guests drooling before every meal. He warmly welcomes you into his “office” (cooking tent), and if you are lucky, may even share with you some of his cooking secrets!

“Makelele” as he likes to be known, As a crew supervisor, Makelele employs humor and a soft touch to make sure everyone is doing his job to Rocky Africa standards. And when in the kitchen he uses just the right spices and soft stirring to make sure your soup is to his standards!

Expert guide
With years of experience and training as a naturalist, Fredrick is an expert guide to the animals and birds of Tanzania. His priority is to find for you the wildlife you want to see. He does it by knowing the premier viewing spots in each national park. When not patiently observing game, Fredrick will keep you laughing with stories culled from years of safaris throughout Tanzania. There is no more personable guide than Fredrick!
CALVINI MBISE
Driver
Calvin started working as a driver for Rocky Africa years ago and is now one of our top safari guides. He studied at the Professional Tour Guide School in Arusha, has taken an advanced birding class, and rounded out his on-the-ground training with Fredrick. Calvin enjoys sharing his knowledge of local flora and fauna with his clients and he is currently involved in studying the trees and flowers of Tanzania.

Well-respected with guiding experience with several top companies, Issaya has been with the Rocky Africa team since 2019. He is serious and thoughtful, and clients who draw out his expansive knowledge enjoy an amazingly rich safari experience.
